For years I've used desoldering equipment in the workplace, but wanted a through-hole desoldering tool to use at home for personal projects, repairs, etc. After searching high and low and reading several product reviews, I bought the Hakko 808 hoping it would meet my needs. All I can say is, the Hakko 808 has not disappointed me. Through-hole components are desoldered quickly and with ease, and after desoldering the component leads and plated PCB holes are generally very clean. Great for scavenging parts, too. This unit has fantastic suction. Just be sure to keep the solder collection tube and filter clean. I frequently suffer from buyer's remorse, but this product--so far--has been everything I had hoped it would be. I'm going to throw away my spring-loaded Sold-A-Pult, as it has been "pwned" by the Hakko 808. I also highly recommend the Hakko 633-01 stand with 599B tip cleaner, and buying an assortment of tips. One final thumbs-up to Hakko...the desoldering unit is manufactured in Japan, where they apparently still know how to make quality products.
