This system costs more than anything you will find at your local big-box store. The price you are paying is well worth it when you understand that what stands behind the pump is one of the most dependable names in water pump systems.

I bought this setup in 2010 to replace the previous homeowner's cheapo pedestal pump, and it has been running strong ever since. Spring in my area is very damp, and a poor sump pump spells doom for your basement if you have anything of value down there.

The M53 pump runs strong and on demand. It is quiet while still being powerful. The only downside to its stock assembly was I had to change the switch float to a more "lenient" float setup, otherwise my pump would run much more than really necessary. (This actually caused to me to prematurely test out the 507 battery backup pump, since my float positioning was poor, and it wasn't able to actuate the switch due to a jam. Without hesitation as the water level hit my desired emergency-on point, the 507's alarm sounded and began working to empty the sump pit, and I sheepishly, yet thankful for the backup's performance, readjusted the float I put on the M53.) On the occasions the sump pit was being surged with massive water amounts, the 1/3HP M53 has almost always kept up.

Notice I said "almost always?" Well today is the day the M53 couldn't handle all the melted snow and rain we have been overwhelmed with. Thankfully, the 507 battery backup is in this packaged system. Even with the M53 pumping its heart out, the water hit that emergency float switch, and the 507 began helping to egress the sump pit hand-in-hand with the M53. The alarm sounded letting me know of the problem, and I watched as the the two pump's combined work got the pit's water level back under control.

The pump's directions say to glue the assembly together, but I would disagree with that in case you need to replace common breakdown items in basement sump pump setups, such as the check valves. Mine has held together great with the small rubber hoses and clamps meant to connect PVC pipes that you can find at any hardware store. I am using a standard group 27 deep cycle battery found off the rack of pretty much any store that carries batteries.

Confidence and dependability come at a price. This one is clearly worth it.
