This outrigger is well-engineered. You can expect it to function perfectly for the rest of your life. I couldn't wait to turn a big bowl after I installed the unit. So I fired up my chainsaw and cut up a large chunk of walnut that I had gotten for free from a tree-cutting company. Using an eight inch faceplate, I mounted a sixty pound blank. I turned the headstock 90 degrees to the right and began roughing out an eighteen inch bowl. Make sure you use the lowest speed if you do this. There was a bit of vibration until I got the blank balanced a bit. After that, it was smooth as can be. My 20A, 115V circuit handled the job without popping a breaker. I could not have done the job with a flimsy tool rest.

The plastic knobs on the handle locks were a disappointment, as they easily stripped out during tightening. But then, I AM a woodturner, right? So I made some new knobs (spheres{ from a piece of scrap oak, drilled a hole, and threaded in the metal rods. A bit of epoxy in the hole finished the job. These handles will last as long as the tool rest now.

That minor problem was not enough of a nuisance to lower the rating. Besides, it was fun making the oak spheres.

Have someone help you with the installation. This item is heavy. The instructions leave something to be desired. You can figure it out without them.
