Have only had the unit in place for a bit over a month, and other than a test run, it hasn't been called on to operate during a power outage/storm. But its pump did output about as much as the standard AC pump in the same hole (what I was aiming for, and something that the Basement Watchdog unit it replaced couldn't come near to doing). The charger obviously has a much larger transformer in it than the little plug-in trickle chargers common on 12V retail backup sumps; should be able to recharge the batteries reasonably rapidly, and perhaps even assist if the system was running while the AC is still on.
My unit is in a crawlspace, and instead of putting the batteries and charger/controller on the floor, I hung them on a shelf from the floor joists above. The charger does "hum", though, loudly enough that you can hear it (a bit) from the room above, in this setup. One of these days, I'll put some rubber cushion under its feet, to reduce that effect.
