Steamist SM-11 11 KW Steam Generator Review

I've owned this unit for a few months now. I've finally got around to writing a review. I'm not sure how much demand there is for a unit this large however. Hopefully it will help though as I bought this one on a whim without any reviews. I had never heard of Steamist before I started looking for a steamer for my home.

First off, this unit is a heavy, solid, piece of American made equipment (built in New Jersey). I may be old fashioned, but I've always felt that the weightier the product, the better components are inside of it. That said, the construction of the unit was simple and everything was straightforward when installing. The computer unit looked nice and was easily accessed if something needs to be changed.

This unit draws a lot of amps, and it will require a 240V line, it draws I think 42amps. It's basically like running a hot tub when it's operating the boiler. I'm sure this thing is an absolute energy hog, but honestly... you're buying a steamer for a private home. I don't think energy conservation is your main priority. So if you're trying to go green, a steamer of this size is not something for you considering it's made for steam rooms around 500 cubic feet.

Onto the operation... the thing heats up incredibly fast. I have it producing steam within a minute or so if I'm starting from cold. If I've run it within an hour it will start steaming in 20 seconds or less. It produces HUGE clouds of HEAVY steam consistently. My room is about 430cubic feet and I can have it full of steam and hot within 5-10 minutes. This unit was made with commercial club operation in mind. I will say though that I've never been in a commercial steam room that had this consistent quality of steam.

I got the fairly simple controller that is recommended for this unit (TC-150 I think?), and it's another solid item. I'm pleased with the quality of the accessories. I asked Steamist if it was a good idea to run this unit on filtered water and they said it would help the unit last longer, so I installed a filtration line directly into the unit. It seems to help keep a really clean feeling/smelling steam (my water has a lot of iron).

So far everything has been good. Steamist has provided me with great customer service when I needed it (really only for 2 questions about accessories). I only have had experience with one other company (Mr. Steam) and I decided to try another company for my home steamer, I've been very pleased with the decision.

Minn Kota Talon/Humminbird Mounted Jack Plate Adapter Bracket Review

Although I have not run my boat yet with this new mount, i can say without a doubt that this mount is beefier then the previous models which equates to a lot less flex and stress. I know a few guys who own the older model mounts and they flex a little too much for my liking. Another friend of mine had a crack in the flag section of his mount(this is the part that connects to the talon bracket). Time will tell. Plus there is a 5 year warranty on thses models. I might have given it 5 stars but I have not had her in the water yet. Nice job minn-Kota!

Bosch FNH180K-16 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 16-Gauge Finish Nailer Kit with Battery, Charger and Case Review

This finish nailer arrived 2 days after order, even with free shipping. I chose it over the Senco Fusion after many days of deliberation. I own a Bosch 18v set and rate it as the best 18v set out there. I am a contractor and a tool-freak, and have used sets from Hitachi, DeWalt, Makita, etc. This gun is not cheap, so I hope I get what I paid for.

I have only had the Bosch Finish Nailer for about 12 hours, but as there are NO reviews of this product I thought I would share my first impressions, so here we go:

Firstly, the case is great, 5 stars. The gun feels very solid, but quite heavy. I like it, - as generally heavy=tough. It is bigger then a Paslode finish nailer (which I also use, but is temperamental due to poor maintenance (not mine), and costly with those gas cartridges) I put a stick of Paslode 2" nails in and started firing away. Once the depth is set it consistently shot the whole stick into a 2x8 at a rate of perhaps 2 a second. The gun has little recoil (due to its solidity (nice word for weight)) and makes a good solid thwack noise. As far as I can tell there is no bump-fire mode, but anyone who wants to bump-fire a finish nailer is a tool. The gun takes about half a second to wind up once the trigger is pulled, and then shoots the nail. I think it works using a flywheel like the DeWalt cordless nailer. I shot into plywood and framing lumber, no solid oak yet.

The DeWalt nailer has good reviews, and is cheaper, but I am not impressed with the way DeWalt has been heading over the last few years, and I like to try new stuff.

I need to spend more time with the gun, but first impressions are great. If you are not a complete wimp the weight of the gun will not bother you, and if this gun holds up like the rest of the Bosch stuff I have bought, then it will be a great addition to my toolbox. I love that it needs nothing but a battery to power.

I will update this review as soon as I have put the gun through it's paces. Might even post a video.

Looked at several ways we could break up the rocky soil we have in TX. Found this on special during the holiday with a percentage off sale. We are simple homeowners on a farm and found this to be easily used by both husband and wife. Like that it comes with the dolly to move it around and keep it stored upright. The dolly also has holders for attachments, which we bought a shovel attachment too in addition to the chisel points it comes with. It is not some lightweight either. It does weigh about sixty plus pounds, but is manageable. If it was lighter I do not think it could do a good job or hold up over time. Chiseled through almost two feet of rock for a distance of thirty feet for a carport foundation with ease. Next task is sending it out to the field powered by generator to dig holes for fence posts.

Thought possibly could be hard on hands, but this was not the case. Wear heavy leather gloves and found that the handles absorb the vibrations without fatigue. The hardest part was getting the Brute out of deep holes since it is no lightweight. With two people we were able to hoist it out of the holes. Like that this model runs on electric. We have an air compressor and could run an air jack hammer,but the Brute made it convenient to use by generator where ever we needed to hammer rock. Definitely has paid for itself by avoiding all the hours of back intensive labor breaking rock by hand. Definitely worth the bucks and tool envy of others.
