Product Description
Since the first day Grizzly started we have been using these Maple Workbench Tops in our shipping and service departments. We estimated that we have over 200 tops in use and expected them to be in service probably for the next 50 years. Our workbench tops are made of solid 1 3/4" USA grown hard rock maple strips that are laminated to each other and then coated with food-safe Durakryl finish. The tops bottoms and all edges are sealed and the appearance is clear satin smooth low sheen and natural in color. There is no odor to the finish and they can be cleaned like any other counter surface using soap and water bleach or nail polish remover. Build your own workbench using our excellent selection of tops. Our optional adjustable SHOP FOX legs are extremely heavy-duty allowing you to customize your workbench size according to your needs.Grizzly AIA07230 Solid Maple Workbench Review
My wife purchased this workbench top for me with the shop fox leg system a couple of years ago for my garage workshop.Unfortunately, within 6 months, the top had bowed to the point it was measurable, and now, 2-3 years later, the top is unuseable for doing any carpentry work on, as the center of the top is about 1/4" lower than the outer edges. Placing any large pieces on the workbench requires me to shim the middle of the piece to get it square, and I'll be replacing this top soon with a box/mdf top instead.
I found this bowing to be very unusual, due to the laminated nature and thickness/weight of the benchtop, and as such, I'm wondering if it's the combination of the workbench top and the shop fox legs that somehow puts a strain on the top, causing it to warp.
Also, my workshop is in my garage, in Texas heat/humidity, and it's conceivable that humidity changes somehow cause the bending... my second workbench, which is simply reinforced Birch veneered plywood hasn't exhibited the same problem
As with one of the previous reviewers, my workbench top also arrived scarred/nicked, although I wasn't overtly worried about it since it was pretty much a cosmetic issue and this top was destined for a shop, not a kitchen counter.
I'm sad this top didn't work out for me, as I had intended it to be the centerpiece of the shop, around which everything else was arranged.
